Nine of Wands — Rider Deck Blue Box Nine of Wands : Description: A man stands watchful guard over a small forest of staves. The man is a veteran and has recently been called upon to defend his charge. He does not allow his bandaged head to serve as an excuse to abandon his post. He is tired and worn, but watchful, conserving his energy for a fight, or the duration of his watch, whichever comes first.

Here we have another defensive card, yet, unlike the 7 of Wands, this is guard duty: protection of material possessions, rather than being accosted by upstarts.

Prime elements at work in this card

  • Number: Nine. Fruition of ideas and labors, waiting. Weapon or tool collection. Odd
  • Suit: Wands. Strength, endurance, vitality, competition, total market dominance
  • Direction: Northwest. Duty, honor, endurance. Storage sheds or silos. Afternoon
  • Element: Fire. Determination, “turf,” defensiveness, reserve energy
